the
liberator - 2008
Touring in public venues only, for 6 weeks in the Autumn
of 2008, the new look liberator was a hit. The play
focuses on the character of Jesus, whilst the gospel
story is retold with a 21st Century twist, running
commentary, satire, and character insights. After creating
the show in 2007, it was back by popular demand, seen
by an audience of around 6000, whilst our schools work
continued with ‘The Story So Far.’
The
Liberator - St David's praise
Extracts from the The Liberator were used as part of St David’s praise
which took place on 31st May 2008 at the celebrated St David’s Hall in
Cardiff. The music by Aaron and Joe Kelly was adapted for orchestra - and a rapt
audience of 2,500 applauded loudly! All in the Lacey camp were pretty happy about
the whole thing, really.
In
2007 a new show was created based upon The Liberator,
which was Rob’s final
published work. He had adapted it into a script which
Abby then refined, as in classic Rob style it was very
long! Steve Stickley directed the new production, coming
up with the brilliant idea of different blocks making
an abstract set. The blocks were lovingly made by Keren
- who was forced to draft in John for help after almost
drowning herself in liquid latex! The show toured nationally
for 14 weeks during the autumn / winter 2007 in community
venues and schools to an audience of over 30,000.

Christmas Presence
The unforgettable John Lambert and beautiful Rhian Mclean
starred in Christmas Presence (written by Abby Guinness
and Rob Lacey) based on the first chapters of the liberator
by Rob Lacey. The show was a satire of the commercial
Christmas of recent years, whilst at the same time
a rediscovery of the warmth and mystery of the original
story. Audiences were given Santa hats whilst they
laughed, enjoyed, and took in this fast moving feast
of festive delight. The show toured for 6 weeks in
both 2005-2006, and was seen by an audience of around
24,000 (communities and schools).

The word on the street 2005-2006
The Bible in 90 minutes based on Rob Lacey’s street
bible, touring nationally in schools, prisons and churches
throughout the UK. Keren, Emily and Rhian shone as storytellers
of skill in this comic retelling which included the disciples
as down to earth Australians, live music, singing and
poetry.

The street bible Live 2004-2005
Lacey Theatre Company began with Abby, Elin and Lucy,
under the direction of Rob Lacey and Steve Stickley,
doing a few tours here and there of Rob’s new
book. The show was ‘genesis to revelation in
75 minutes’ and was developed from Rob’s
original solo show, with music by Bill and Rachel Taylor
Beales. Well we were all chuffed that people laughed
at our jokes and seemed to keep booking. After over
300 shows, we decided we needed to find some more actors
to put their stamp on the work, and take the Lacey
banner forward. Enter Keren, Emily and Rhian.
